Abstract

By changing information management, access, and user services, the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in academic libraries is revolutionizing the area of library science. This paper reviews current research and institutional practices to investigate how AI affects academic library operations. Intelligent cataloguing, personalized recommendation systems, automated reference services, predictive collection management, and data-driven service evaluation are some of the major transformation areas identified in the research. AI minimizes repetitious labor for library personnel, increases operational efficiency, and improves user accessibility. Algorithmic prejudice, privacy issues, digital inequality, infrastructural constraints, and concerns about job displacement are still major issues, nevertheless. The study emphasizes the increasing significance of human-AI cooperation and generative AI in library services. It comes to the conclusion that ethical governance, technological preparedness, and a dedication to protecting intellectual freedom, fair information access, and critical information literacy in academic institutions are necessary for the successful integration of AI.
