Abstract

This article is about the incident that takes place between Dronacharya and Ekalavya at the time of Ekalavya's payment of his Guru Dakshina to his Guru Dronacharya for his teaching the art of Archery to Ekalavya. We all have a general opinion that Dronacharya's intension in demanding Ekalavya's thumb is injustice and selfish. But we have to understand by examining the social, doctrinal and moral limitations behind the incident. Let us take the aspects such as the relationship between a teacher and a student, the influence of the castism, political righteousness and the responsibility of a guru in this analysis. It is clearly declared that the teachership of Dronacharya isnot merely giving coaching in archery but also, he has a strong and perfect awareness to whom the training is to be given. The strict and sincere promises of the political as well as the amoral values of teaching the art of Archery to the Kouravas and the Pandavas and rejecting Ekalavya as his disciple because he belongs to Nishada tribe by respecting the then sociatal conditions besides designing Arjuna as the best archer in the world etc. are the main aspects that influence the decision of Dronacharya. In this article it is clearly discussed with doctrinal attitude whether the mind set of Dronacharya is really injustice or it is acceptable and necessary in the course of time. The information of this article, undoubtedly, builds a strong foundation on the aspects of the present day society related to the relationship between teachers and students, it's importance, societal issues and righteous deeds.
