Covid-19 and Local Self Government in Odisha: A case of Tikiri Gram Pacnhayat

The entire world is struggling as how to combat the spread of Novel Corona Virus-2019 disease and so as in India too. Currently, the state of Odisha has reported 3140 active cases as of now. In this regard, the state of Odisha drew the centre’s appreciation for combating the covid-19 pandemic efficiently in the midst of April. However, the district of Rayagada has been the focal point for the entire state Odisha due to ‘Nil’ active covid-19 cases till the end of the month of May while the other districts are on the rise. This paper tries to offer a detailed account of Covid-19 situation and the role of Local Self-Government and other stakeholders at grass root level for combating the spread of Covid-19, especially at Tikiri Gram Panchayat in Rayagada district of Odisha. This paper has been prepared on the basis of opinion/perceptions that are collected from the Sarpanch including staff and other stakeholders.
