Abstract

Climate change represents a multifaceted global challenge that affects diverse environmental components and significantly influences human lifestyles. Adaptation to climate change involves a two-step process, wherein individuals—particularly farmers—must first perceive changes in climatic conditions and subsequently respond through appropriate adaptive actions. Within this context, women play a multidimensional and vital role in the sustainable development of the economy through their contributions to both household and agricultural activities. The present study sought to examine the adaptation strategies adopted by farm women in response to climate change in the Bikaner district of Rajasthan. A sample of 280 farm women was selected for the present descriptive study. The findings revealed that the overall level of adaptation strategies employed by farm women—pertaining to agricultural crops, financial management, family management, soil and water conservation, and livestock management—fell within the medium category. Furthermore, a positive and significant relationship was observed between adaptation strategies and several independent variables, including age, education, family occupation, farm size, livestock (number, type, and experience), annual family income, farming experience, mass media utilization, contact with extension personnel, and social participation at the 0.05 level of significance. In contrast, caste, family size, and family type were found to have no significant relationship with adaptation strategies.

Dr. Anubhuti Pandey, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Home Science, HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar Uttarakhand

Dr. Anubhuti Pandey is a qualified academician and researcher in the field of Home Science, with specialization in extension education, nutrition, gender studies, and climate change adaptation. She earned her Ph.D. in Home Science from Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner, Rajasthan and qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) in Home Science. She completed her M.Sc. from Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University, Hyderabad and her B.Sc. from Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand with first division. Her doctoral research focused on the perception and adaptation strategies adopted by farm women towards climate change in the Bikaner district of Rajasthan, while her master’s dissertation dealt with the development and validation of a Digital Nutrition Dictionary in Indian Sign Language for hearing-impaired children, reflecting her interdisciplinary research orientation. Dr. Pandey has published research papers in reputed journals and holds a registered copyright for a Speculative Manual for Food Items for a Digital Nutrition Dictionary (DND) for Hearing Impaired Children (2024). She has actively participated in several national seminars, webinars, and workshops related to research methodology, agricultural education, agri-entrepreneurship, digital marketing, and technological innovations in agriculture. she is presently serving as an Assistant Professor (Guest Faculty) in the Department of Home Science at Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Uttarakhand.

Dr. Prasanlata Arya, Assistant Professor, EECM dept. SKRAU, Bikaner Rajasthan

Dr. Prasanlata Arya is an accomplished academic and Associate Professor in the Department of Extension Education and Communication Management at Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University (SKRAU), Bikaner, where she has been serving since 2012. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the College of Community Science, SKRAU, Bikaner in 2016, which further strengthened her expertise in the fields of agricultural extension and communication. Her primary academic interests lie in multidisciplinary agricultural sciences, with a particular focus on community outreach, rural development, and the effective dissemination of knowledge through extension practices. Over the years, Dr. Arya has made significant contributions to academic research, with several publications addressing key issues related to rural livelihood practices, indigenous knowledge systems, and household-level interventions. Based in Bikaner, Rajasthan, she continues to be actively engaged in teaching, research, and extension activities, working towards the empowerment of farming communities and strengthening the linkage between agricultural education and grassroots development.

Dr. Siddharth Lohani, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Education, HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar Uttarakhand

Dr. Siddharth Lohani is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Srinagar (Garhwal). He holds a Ph.D. in Education, M.Ed., and dual M.A. degrees in Economics and Psychology, along with UGC-NET and JRF qualifications. With over eight years of teaching experience and ten years of research engagement, his core areas of specialization include the professional development of teachers and teacher educators, as well as tool construction and standardization. He has presented a wide range of research papers at national and international seminars, focusing on themes such as teacher education, peace education, educator’s accountability, and indigenous education. His academic contributions comprise more than 20 research publications and five book chapters published in reputed journals and edited volumes. He remains actively committed to advancing teacher education through rigorous research, capacity-building programmes, and meaningful participation in academic discourse.

Dr. Ramesh Chandra Singh, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Education, HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar Uttarakhand

Dr. Ramesh Chandra Singh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Birla Campus, Srinagar (Garhwal). He brings with him over 14 years of teaching experience and holds postgraduate degrees in Education, Mathematics, Physics, History, and Sociology, along with UGC-NET qualification. His academic expertise on Educational Administration and Management, Educational Measurement and Evaluation, and Teacher Education (Pre-service and In-service). Dr. Rana plays an active role in academic leadership and institutional administration, serving as Assistant Exam Controller, Assistant Coordinator of the Entrance Exam Cell, and Assistant Nodal Officer of CUET at HNBGU. He is also a member of esteemed academic bodies including the Indian Association of Teacher Education (IATE), All India Association for Educational Research (AIAER), and the Indian Journal of Psychometry and Education (IJPE). With over 25 research publications, active participation in numerous seminars, conferences, workshops, and training programmes, Dr. Rana has made significant contributions to the advancement of teacher education and educational research. His career reflects a sustained commitment to both academic excellence and professional development in the field of education.
