Abstract

The educational landscape is undergoing significant transformation due to the integration of advanced technologies and the emergence of evolving educational paradigms. These shifts are reshaping traditional teaching methodologies, redefining the roles of educators, and altering the dynamics of the learning environment. With digital technologies and their impact on educational practices advancing quickly, we need to rethink how we prepare teachers. This study contributes to our understanding of how teachers are being prepared to meet the demands of increasingly complex digital learning environments. This foundational research examines secondary level teacher trainees' potential professional capacities in the digital age across orientations, contexts, and physical spaces of teaching. A total of (N=560) teacher-trainees were included from the secondary level, representing various gender and institutional backgrounds from all over the country. The study offers rich perspectives on contemporary teacher preparation by gender, type of institution, and location. This study adopted a cross-sectional descriptive research design and a multiphase assessment framework to investigate the technological expertise, pedagogical innovation, and professional competences. The findings of the study highlight the need for dynamic technology-embedded professional development approaches that support educators to adaptively traverse through the multifaceted educational terrain of the 21st century. The study underscores the importance of leveraging technology in teacher preparation and can serve as a resource for educational policymakers, institution and program leaders, and practitioners.
